From the "I
Am Always Getting Screwed By Big Chains" files: I know that it is only
a matter of time before Blockbuster gets there pants sued off over the
latest "No more late fees" ploy. Did you know that if you are a Blockbuster
member you are being forcibly upgraded to a membership that states you are
responsible to purchase the movie or game rental if it is more than 30 days
overdue. Now, that may not be a big deal, but I don't recall ever agreeing
to such a membership stipulation. Ever. It's like when the cable company had
'negative option billing' where you had to agree not to get certain cable
packages or you'd be billed for their premium package at full price. Now,
with Blockbuster you're agreeing to make a purchase without your consent!
And if you're 7 days late you're charged a 'restocking fee'. Isn't that
the same as a late fee? Isn't a rose by any other name still a rose? My
question is "Who's going to sue them first over this?" Stories
that have been submitted are on
this page. Even the
Attorney General of New Jersey is complaining about
this sales technique.
